I purchased my Acer Aspire One on June 20, 2009 in seashell white for $329 here on Amazon. When I received it a few days later, the only thing not working on it was the front switch that turns the wireless capablity on and off. Because it was brand new, I wanted a fully functional netbook and wanted this fixed. I attempted to do an exchange on Amazon, but they were "sold out" and I could only do a complete return. The option they left me besides that was to contact Acer and have it repaired under warranty. I used the 800 number to contact them and, of course, got someone who could hardly speak English! I was told to send my computer to them in Texas by any means other than US Post and when I asked why they didn't pay postage, I was told that during the Acer netbook setup, it does say that they do not pay shipping for warranty work. I expressed my dismay at that since the netbook was brand new. I shipped it via UPS at a cost of $16. Due to the July 4th holiday, it was not delivered by that Friday because Acer folks were not in the office on Friday. The netbook was returned by the end of the following week and the switch was fixed. My reason for giving this netbook 4 stars is only because of the customer service and having to pay for shipping.

I deleted all the extra programs that came with the Acer, namely the ones that were only trials anyway. I took off the Microsoft Office package and installed my own. I took off the McAfee package and installed my own virus program. I recently had a virus on my PC that Norton found but could not quarantine or delete and tried AVG to get rid of it, but that didn't even find the virus. I finally found a great program called Malwarebytes [...]that removed the virus and found more adware too. I installed that on the Acer as well. It does come with other useless programs too so I recommend deleting all of them and installing what you need.

I also use the built in camera to SKYPE with friends in Europe and the picture is good and the sound is just fine. You can take pictures with the SKYPE program of the person you are talking to and the pictures come out perfect.

I used the machine without the power cord to test the timing and got about 6.5 hours out of it. I never got 8 like some folks claim, so not sure how you can get a hour and a half more time out of it, but it's still plenty of time to watch a DVD on a plane or do other things.

The touchpad is a bit annoying and really sensitive. Others have written that they have to press hard on it, but mine is almost too sensitive and I wound up clicking on things or double tapping on things that I didn't mean to. I decided to purchase a Logitech V220 cordless mouse from Target for [...] Perfect size for the netbook and my hand. The usb plug snaps into the bottom of it when it's not in use. I had it next to me while watching TV and it will not work as a TV remote!! Ooops, got the remote and the mouse mixed up!

Overall, I love this little guy and I'm sure it will be perfect for traveling with.

Ok, let's get this straight, I'm you're average college biology student with little to almost no background in computer specs.

I ended up with the 4400 battery, but no biggy. Everything on my end works great. It's the prefect size to take to class. Small enough to fit on the small desk and type. It'll take a little getting use to though.

Burning out the back up disc was easy, just click on the Acer recovery icon in the start menu folder, attach external burner, and burn. I haven't fully tested out the webcam nor the microphone yet, but I did turned on the webcam for a few minutes and it's pretty good. Only bad thing I have to say about this is the touchpad is a little sensitive, meaning that one touch can flicker the pointer to the top corner of the screen. (Only happened a few times so far) So get a mouse.

Been using this 10.1" Acer several hours a day over the last week. We bought this to replace a dead desktop with the intention of having something we could pass around in the family room and not be tied to a desktop back in the office. So far, so good. One of us always has it in use. The smaller keyboard still takes a little getting used to, biggest concern is the Page Up/Page Dn buttons right next to the arrow keys. It's too easy to hit them and then you've jumped where you didn't want to go. Touch pad is lousy, you'll want to connect a real mouse.

There's quite a bit of crapware to uninstall such as a trial version of Office, Works, McAfee, eSobi, etc. I got rid of McAfee because it bogs your system down, I've put AVG 8 free and Comodo free firewall instead.
Once the crap was gone and I upgraded the RAM to 2GB for $15, it's really snappy at booting up and loading Firefox 3.5, IE8, or Chrome 2.0. It has enough power to handle anything web related we've thrown at, including kids games and streaming Netflix through the VGA output to our HDTV at HD resolution. Not sure if it would choke on Office or not, we use Gmail & Google Docs, it is a NETbook after all... I can't wait for the Google Chrome OS to come out, I will definitely cut the Microsoft cord.

I've been using this computer for over a month now, and it has been a good machine for general use. They keyboard is easier for me to use than other netbooks, and the trackpad is decent (but not great). I have not had any problems, and I run a few big apps (like Visual Studio) and stream Netflix movies to my TV without performance issues. I like this laptop when I got it. A week after, I have issues with power adapter. I googled, and all I can see is people having some or other issues with Acer Aspire Ones. They have very poor quality of laptops, untested bulk sales of crappy machines. Their Customer Service is even pathetic. No phone number on their website to start with. I googled and found a number, but after 4 calls, no one sensible.

Couple of other things:
1. Keyboard is too small, although my fingers are small, I can't type like a normal keyboard. Its not a full keyboard. Up/down arrow, u need to literally located them.

This is a nice little package - it has given me no problems - all programs have installed without a problem - and all usb hardware was also recognized with no problems (hp 8gig flash drive, Iomega 320 gig removable hard drive, Samsung DVD drive). I recived this laptop for my birthday a few days ago. This is my first laptop and so far I am very happy with it. The keyboard is a little small but it only took a day for me to get used to it. All of the keys are in the right spots which makes typing a lot easier. The camrea and microphone work great video chating is very easy to do and lots of fun. This netbook has a lot of space it has 160GB of memory and it comes with 1 GB of RAM. I upgraded mine to 2GB very easily. It comes with MS Works which is very useful. I use this computer for school work and I've had no trobule with MS Works. The processor is small but still works very well. The touchpad takes a while to get used to. The buttons are a little hard to press but get easier the more you use them. I've setup the touchpad to scroll up and down the screen if i slide my finger up and down on the right side of the touchpad. This netbook is very usefull for Video Chating abd doing school work. Its light weight makes it very easy to carry around and the battery lasts for 6 to 8 hours on a single charge. I no a few people have complained about the screen being to fragile. I really don't know how strong it is so I just avoid touching it. I've heard that the cusstomer service is bad but scince I've had no problems I don't know. Occasionally the computer tells you that you need to get disks and backup the computer. Scince there is no optical drive you have to buy one seperate. Once you get an optical drive you can also watch movies. The Windows XP that the computer comes with I like. Scince the screen is small I set up the task bar to only appear when i put the mouse at the bottom of the screen. This is my first laptop. I've used it for about 60 days.It is a lot more than I expected. Usually, if a product delivers half that advertised, I am satisfied. This little sucker has features and performance to spare... compared to my desktop I've updated throughout it's 12 year life. My Acer flat panel desktop monitor shot craps a few days after the Aspire One arrived. It's still out for warranty repair. I hooked this little gem up to our new Sharp 42" Aquos LCD HDTV. AMAZING!!! Added Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, and a HP 555 external DVD drive. I can sit across the room on the couch and use it like a desktop... only better. I can copy a movie DVD onto a SD memory card in 4-5 minutes, and watch the video from the SD card. Very little wear on the DVD drive that way. I think I can die now. Life just can't get better. I will have to give up the TV when my monitor gets back from Acer repair. The wife wants the TV back. Maybe she will let me share. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. Even without the extended eight-hour battery that the early buyers received, the battery life is great. I've gotten as long as 6.5 hours or more, and usually get at least 5.5 hours. It will vary according to how bright you set your screen, how much you access hard drive and other activities. If you are not needing Wi-Fi, you can turn it off with the switch in front and get longer life.

This is my second Acer purchase, the first being the smaller (I believe it is 8.5 inches or 9) screen earlier blue model. Both are great.

This version for some reason doesn't have as many issues with returning from hibernation and seems faster than the first.

But both are great for my graduate-school work, with intense paper writing and Net-based research.

We bought this as an extra computer to supplement our desktop which is what we use mainly. Because we were going to be moving it around the house and traveling with it we wanted it to be light. Well, it sure is. We love the size. I was a little worried about the small key board, but it is not bad once you get used to it. The touch screen has some features like the ability to expand or contract the screen using two fingers (like an Iphone) that is pretty cool, but we didn't know about it at first and could figure out what was going on. The battery life is great, ususally seven hours or more. Another thing that I thought might be a problem is the screen size, but I have not had any problems with it. It is quite sharp and clear.

The only problem, and it is significant, is that it can be really, really sloooww - enough that I knocked two stars off. I did a search and found that this is a problem for a lot of people. There were a couple of tweeks you can do to speed it up, including deleting a lot of the "bloatware" that is preloaded and all unnecessary programs and adjusting the power settings. That helps, but it is still slower than any laptop that I've used.

I have been a die-hard Mac person, for years. My iBook's hard drive died unexpectedly and suddenly and I was hard-pressed to come up with a computer I could start using quickly and with ease. I also had to find a computer which was affordable, on short notice (in other words, I didn't have the time to save enough money to get a new Mac laptop, nor did I feel like taking out a loan).
