Discount Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

It is such a joy to carry around a computer the size of a book and not have to lug around a traditional laptop. The 10.1" screen is a perfect size with great clarity and reasonable performance. This model can easily be upgraded to have 2GB of memory from the standard 1GB that comes with it. Earlier models were a nightmare to upgrade. The 160GB drive is great and I partitioned mine so I can load Vista (comes with XP) and Linux (Ubuntu does not totally work without tweaks but Fedora does).

The red finish of this looks great. The red is more like a brick red or the red that Motorola uses on the Razor. It does not leave fingerprints as bad as the Asus EEE.

The keyboard works pretty well and while it is not full size you can adjust to it fairly quickly.

Battery life tends to be around 5 to 5.5 hours for my average use which is awesome. The newer Asus supposedly gets 9 hours but I rarely ever have to use it more than 5 hours and I'm a geek. So the style of the Acer fits me better.

The rest of the specs are nice: 3 USB, Giga network jack, and G wireless all work flawlessly (unless you're talking Linux and that is always up to the distribution if all the wireless works).

Love my Acer One netbook and take it everywhere with me. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

Acer Aspire One 10.1"

Pros:
- Quality build construction
- Very good keyboard
- 8+ hour battery life
- Extremely easy to upgrade the RAM
- 160gig hard drive

Cons:
- Integrated webcam is low resolution
- Large battery pack makes it a tight fit for most 10.1" sleeves/cases
- No integrated bluetooth

Let me begin by saying I did 90% of my graduate thesis on this little machine, and it's a wonderful deal at less than $400 (with a case and 2gig RAM upgrade). Typing is comfortable, and the keyboard is responsive and easy to use. The acer keyboard is very good.

I've owned the Acer Aspire One for about two weeks now - and I think it's an excellent little netbook - especially with Windows 7 coming out soon.

I haven't tried many netbooks other than the Acer Aspire One 8.9" and Dell Mini 9. The smaller acer is really nice too, but I prefer the larger screen. A direct comparison with the Dell Mini 9 will follow...

My friend got the Dell Mini 9 because he wanted the bluetooth and to hackintosh it. The Dell Mini 9 has equalivalent or better build quality than the Acer, it just feels more "solid". However, the Acer screen is better in both our opinions. Although the Dell is really nice too, there are two major weaknesses - the first depends on your budget:

1. Price - the Dell Mini 9 (note the smaller screen size) is much more expensive than the Acer for any similar configurations. The Dell also comes with a smaller battery.

2. Keyboard - the Dell Mini 9 has a TERRIBLE keyboard. The apostraphe key, which should be adjacent to the enter key, is below the period key on the Dell. What the hell. It's where the ALT key usually is.

This turns out to be a major problem when trying to use the Dell for chatting or writing any papers. My friend ended up not hackingtoshing it because he hardly uses it anymore. It just sits on his bookshelf. The keyboard is so bad, the netbook is pretty much useless because of it.

On the other hand, I use my Acer every night. It's perfect for browsing the web, writing a few emails, chatting with friends, and catching up on facebook. I don't tired typing on it even after hours of use. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Cheap Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

Strongly recommend to not buy ACER Aspire One. Less than 3 months after purchase, the monitor cracked and no longer works. Upon returning it for warranty service and repair, was told it is not covered as it is physical damage. I explained that it was on a hotel desk one night working and did not work when started the next morning. The service technicians response was that I had probably closed the notebook with only one hand and that could damage the monitor. It is not covered by warranty. Such a piece of junk should not be considered a notebook/netbook that is used for travel. It is absurd that it is so poorly constructed that closing it with one hand would destroy it.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Buying Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

This notebook works well for what it is. I use it primarily as a media device; it stays connected to my stereo and TV most of the time. I use a Firefly Remote and software from Snapstream. Rather than paying $300 for a device that plays your media through your network on your home AV system but CAN'T be used for anything else, why not pay a few dollars more and get something that does all that, and CAN be used for tons of other stuff. I play DIVX movies through my wireless network and playback is smooth and looks fine on my TV. The first thing I did was uninstall most of the add ons that came pre-installed. Including (gasp!) the anti-virus package. Having done all that, it runs pretty fast now. This machine will not be used for anything important, no passwords will be typed on it, no banking, and only my least cared about web based email account will ever be accessed. Get an external cd/dvd burner and make your restore disks so if something does go wrong you can get back online without too much hassle. I had one program that would not launch because the screen resolution was not adequate. Plugging in an external monitor temporarily was a quick workaround. The camera seems to give a pretty clear picture. I only tested it by clicking on it in Windows Explorer since I don't video chat. The speakers are under the unit so if you want to hear them, try propping it up so that the sound can get out better. Battery life from the 6-cell is about as expected, shy of the the 6 hours that they claim but good for 3.5 with average use. It sticks out 3/4" beyond the back of the computer. I don't like the mouse pad. It's too small, doesn't work well for me, and the buttons are not easy to feel or click since they are totally flush with the case. You can plug your favorite mouse or touchpad into one of the 3 USB ports so no problem there if it starts to drive me TOO crazy. For $350, this computer works as well or better than expected. Portability is superb.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

I previously had an OQO 2. I used it mostly for internet (browsing/email) and office tasks (open office).
The Acer Aspire one easily beats the OQO for these tasks:
- Keyboard:
Having a real keyboard is really a good thing. This keyboard is soft and works very well.
- Screen:
A little bigger. 1024 instead of 800 horizontal pixels makes browsing the web and writing test much easier.
- Battery:
Huge difference: I easily get 7 hours instead of 2 hours on the OQO.
- Noise:
The Aspire One is really, really quiet. No high pitch fans. It also runs quite cool.
- Weight:
Well, the Aspire One is heavier, no doubt, and you can't put it in your pocket. But at 2.5lb it's light enough for traveling.
- Wifi:
The Aspire One has better wifi connection than the OQO, which is an important factor for this class of machines.

I can only highly recommend this cute little beast for anybody who needs web/office on the go.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Review

I have been using this netbook for over a month now and I am very satisfied with it. Battery life is fantastic (8+ hours), very good quality screen with good range of brightness (can be seen easily outside at maximum setting), decent keyboard (for a netbook!) and well designed.

I agree with many other reviews that say the touchpad could be much better, but for the price, it is certainly usable. I opted for the Logitech V220 cordless mouse when buying this computer and am very happy with the performance for the price there as well. Consider the nano version of the mouse with the smaller receiver for better portability.

Excellent connectivity options, wireless G works well, mic/video cam and Acer's video enhancing program works well for Skype and the like. Very portable/light weight (for a 6-cell battery machine), yet sturdy frame and screen. Battery protrudes a bit from the end, but acts to tilt netbook toward you for more ergonomic position -- no complaints. Individual hatches over the memory/HDD/wireless card make upgrades much easier.

Only negative would be that at times it gets bogged down with some applications, but that is rare, and after all, it is a netbook, not a desktop.

If you want a highly portable computer for surfing the net, checking e-mail, and other low-intensity apps, and you are a value seeker -- this is the netbook for you. You can't beat the price for the screen size, memory size, 6-cell battery, and hard disk size.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life This instant

I recently purchased this netbook for my girlfriend, replacing the 5 year old laptop she had.

It was meant as a surprise for her, so I removed some minimal bloatware and installed some of the software she needs. It's currently set up with Firefox, OpenOffice and Itunes and runs like a gem.

This being my first experience with a netbook I was extremely surprised at the capability for the price. It does everything she would need it for, is ultra portable, and stylish to boot.

I connected the machine to our home network and now she can get all the media she wants on her little companion. We've been watching full screen movies and tv shows while on the road without any issues.

The keyboard is small at first, but as other reviewers have stated, you get used to it. I have average size hands for a man and do a lot of typing. I have done a speed test with this keyboard and was able to write 60 words per minute. The only slow down coming from finding the new placement of special characters. I'm actually currently typing this review on it.

The battery life of the 6cell battery is as advertised. On the lowest screen brightness and without wifi you could easily achieve 8 hours on it. So far we've had no problems going longer periods away from an outlet.

I would easily recommend this product to anybody looking for an ultra portable device for the basic everyday computer tasks. I purchased the ruby red version as my lady likes a splash of color. The netbook feels very solid while being light weight at the same time.

My girlfriend refers to it as her "little nugget" and has really enjoyed this purchase. I knew she would love it, but I have to admit I was also happily surprised.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Immediately

The Acer Inspire works well. It's light and very usable. I haven't tried the webcam yet, but it will be useful when traveling for work. The only drawbacks are the lack of an optical drive (which can usually be substituted for the use of a flash drive) and the slowness of the Intel Atom processor. For whatever reason, this processor is a bit slower at times than processors of the same "speed" in laptops or desktops. This is particularly true when many applications are open or when the mini hasn't been restarted in a while. If you don't let this happen, then you will likely not even notice this drawback. I do notice it, but the pros still outweigh the cons. A good buy.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

My very first computer was an Acer that ran Windows 3.0, and it still runs. I was going to repplace a very obsolete Palm handheld when I came across a picture of the Aspire One. I began to investigate, and most reviewers gave it 4 to 5 stars. It is fast and compact (I carry it in my purse). I am running Office 2007, McAfee, Internet Explorer 8, and Adobe Standard 8.0. My boot time is less than 20 seconds. The screen images are crystal clear. The keyboard does take some getting use to, but its portability and other features make it worth the price. Acer also makes an accessory kit that includes an external DVD drive, optical mouse, and slip cover. This is about pricing policy of Amazon on this item.

Just wanted to let everyone know of my situation with Amazon. I purchased the acer aspire one 10inch on April 19. On May 18 the price went down by $15 dollars.

In speaking with an Amazon representatives, I am told that they won't match the new lower price on their site. It's within 30 days but they won't match it. I was very upset by this given that on another item they actually lowered the products price to match what it was 4 days earlier to get me to purchase.

I am just writing to ensure you know what you are getting into by purchasing on line with Amazon versus buying from a local store.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

I've had my 10 inch AOD150 for a month now. I love it! Starts up super quickly. Has amazing battery life (I have extended battery option) - 7 hrs! I was worried about the keyboard being too small but it is definitely not. Like all windows based netbooks, it definitely slows down if you have too many app's open, so opt for the most RAM as possible. The only drawback is the touchpad buttons - they are TOO stiff. You have to stop typing & concentrate on pushing the left click button HARD with your thumb. This solution is easily fixed, however, with a portable mouse. Better for the wrists, too. I love that this model has one USB port on the left, and two on the right side of the computer. I've been using an older Dell 14" laptop for several years for casual web surfing while watching TV and such. I saw one of these Aspire netbooks at the local Radio Shack and it caught my interest. Smaller than the laptop, MUCH lighter and yet still plenty big enough.
It came this week and here are my first impressions...
It's plenty fast! I can't tell any difference between this and the older Dell Inspirion I had. It's much lighter and yet still fits in my lap OK. The screen is smaller but still very readable for my over 50 yr old eyes. It does require more up/down scrolling to read websites but it's easy to do with the up/down keys. Speaking of those, they are very well positioned and easy to use, I like the combination of up/down/left/right and page up/down all together like they are.
I didn't like the scrollpad's option of page scrolling, kept getting in the way of just moving the mouse so I turned off that option in the control panel the first day and just use the up/down buttons on the KB.
The left/right click buttons take some getting used to, you MUST click out on the very end of the button bar for it to work properly.
The rest of the keyboard is about 90% size and easy enough to touch type on but I have slender hands. If you have big hands you need to try one of these first before buying.
Sound is good for movies and online video, if you want really good sound use a set of headphones. I already have DVD ripping software and several movies ripped for viewing on my Palm TREO, they play just fine on this machine AFTER I downloaded a free .avi viewer off the web.
1GB of RAM has been plenty so far for just surfing, email and such. The HD space is HUGH! My older desktop only has 80 GB and this is twice that! So I've got plenty of room. I copied my videos and music over my home wireless network so I'll have them handy on the netbook. Do this overnight if you have a large collection! Just copy all your 'my documents' over and let it run on the AC adapter overnight.
The WiFi connection had no problem with my Linksys network.
The first day I ran a battery test after charging fully overnight. It ran over 8 hours! I modified the power settings to keep the screen on and some disk access along with wifi going the whole time. That is VERY good.
I can see this will be just fine for home surfing and really handy for long plane or car trips. Rip a few of my favorite movies and watch them to kill the time! (I'd use the desktop for ripping and just copy the file over on the wireless network). The desktop will still be used for PC work that requires concentration, spreadsheets, paying bills, important stuff.
I dumped the McAfee antivirus and downloaded the FREE AVG Antivirus first thing. I also don't plan on using MS Office or Works, I'll use Google docs online for all of that and I can get a FREE viewer for Word, Excel, and Powerpoing from the Micrsoft website if I need to view one of those document from email.
I'm looking forward to using the netbook around the house, it's so portable and the battery lasts so long I can start an online video or streaming audio and carry it around anywhere....

Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

This is a very well constructed and good performing netbook. It has good battery life, yeileding 6.5 hours using a battery drain test. Computer performance is very good, although I did upgrade to 2GB ram, which is recommended. The materials and construction are of high quality, with a more upscale look and feel than others in the segment. The webcam is not the best, compared to others. The tactile feel of the keyboard (IMO) is very good and mousepad buttons, although stiff at first, do soften up. The mousepad itself has some nice features and if you take time to learn how to use it and fine tune it to your pressure sensitivity you will be pleased. Mine is the white version and as someone else stated the cover is pearlized while the bottom is solid white. They don't quite match exactly but they work well together. The screen is very bright and I often turn it down to the lowest setting. I only wish the computer would remember the last setting I left it on since it seems to always default to the brightest setting everytime you turn it on. Not a big deal though since it takes a second to turn it down. Overall happy with this purchase. Cheap Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

Buyers BEWARE of the so-called one-year warranty!

I purchased this netbook on February 20, 2009 for my daughter's 18th birthday and graduation gift, which hasn't occurred yet but gave it to her early. As of May 9, 2009 the product isn't working and since May 10, 2009 have been corresponding through Internet email tech support to resolve.

First, it was recommended to restore to a date when system was functioning properly. That didn't work. The other recommended was to run the e-Recovery program which restores the system to the factory settings. This requires the use of an external optical device which I had to purchase (that I received on May 21, 2009 for a cost of $78.88 - Wal-Mart) to be used to back-up system before running the recovery program. Well, that can't be done due to the initial issue and that is that the netbook is kind-of-in a frozen state. You click on the icons or programs and the hourglass continues to run.

When I reported the latest, basically I was told this is "Advance Troubleshooting" which is supported over the phone that is chargeable at a cost of $2.95 per minute with the slots 30 minutes ($59.99), 90 minutes ($129.99), or 15 issues ($199,99) and the validity will be 1 year which can be billed to your credit card. I can' believe they are using "Advance Troubleshooting" as justification for not honoring the one-year warranty on their system that stop functioning properly within three months and as a way of charging the consumer more money.

So, PLEASE beware of the one-year warranty because your issue may get labeled as "Advanced" which will require more of your money.

Buying Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I attend a lot of meetings within my company and with clients. I go to seminars and conferences and I travel for work and family. I am a serious long time Mac user. Going back to about 1985 - I cut my teeth on a Mac Plus, yeah - old school. I switched to apple laptops later and loved them. I currently have a great 15inch MacBook Pro - its awesome. Powerful, runs amazingly fast, gorgeous. Its also heavy, big, and has pretty pathetic battery life. Its not usable for quick meetings. I have to pack the macbook, the cables, etc.. and usually my macbook was hooked up to a lot of stuff already so a pain to unhook it 4-5 times a day and take to a meeting and then reconnect it all.

I wanted a small laptop for note taking and light internet usage. I wanted it to have great battery life and I did not want to have to carry it in a bag. I wanted to be able to run to a meeting either down the hall or across the street and just grab the laptop and go. Not really possible with a $2600 apple laptop. I was tired of lugging my big apple laptop and accessories on vacation & worrying about getting it stolen or damaged at the hotel. I wanted a "throw down" laptop that if it was lost or stolen, I wouldn't be out $2600.

Enter the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165, a fellow at work bought one for his daughter and I marveled at the size. It took me a long time to make the decision but I did it and have been very very happy. I waited for Apple to release something that was under $500 and realized it wasn't going to happen. I bought the red Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 and let me tell you it is amazing. Its also the first wintel machine I have ever bought. Of course these days its easy to use this on a mac network or to use a USB stick to transfer files. So mac users, if you are tired of waiting for an apple netbook - give this guy a try - i promise you won't be disappointed. It connected to my airport extreme base station easily.

Pros:

Very sturdy build, very impressed with it.
Bright, glossy screen. Just a great screen.
Lots of adds - webcam, 3 usb ports, ethernet port, wifi, audio in & out
Big roomy HD and ample Ram.
Very solid feeling keyboard.
Insane battery life, I clocked it at 5+ hours plus one day and it still had 14% left.
Easy access to the hard drive and ram slot, could not be easier.
And the price - crazy cheap. $329 from Amazon.

Cons: (there aren't many)

CLick pad is small and hard to press, maybe it will get easier to use.
The power adapter is huge, really big. Luckily it has a great battery.
Comes with a lot of bloatware, but easy to nuke the junk.
No DVD / CD drive, well at this price.... can you expect one?
No system CDs. Unsure what I would do if I screwed up the OS.
Windows XP just pales in comparison to OSX, but its ok for light usage.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Purchase Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I just got this netbook a week ago and couldn't be more pleased. The portability alone is worth the cost of this convenient little laptop. I did an extensive amount of research before I made this purchase and am so glad that I chose this one. The battery life is amzing. One of the reasons I chose this particular make and model is because of the reviews it had on the battery life. I use it all the time and don't have to charge it very often at all. Maybe every other day. Because it is so small I can really carry it everywhere I go so easily. It's great for surfing the web, emails, and Microsoft Office. The speed is pretty impressive. It starts up within about 20 seconds. I would recommend this to anyone looking for and affordable, portable laptop. I love it! very good option. despite this is not a performance laptop, this netbook does what it is supposed to do.

By they way it is pretty impressive: I upgraded to Windows XP Pro and using only internet explorer, Microsoft Office package, skype , Adobe Acroba and MSN, it works fine and very responsive.

Just the touchpad buttons for the mouse are bad. Need to press strongly to get proper function. So for that reason, added an external usb mouse. This is the only bad point.

Despite of that, this is a recommended item. Makes what it promisses for the price you pay.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I bought this netbook to enable my wife to easily look things up on the Internet while reading in an easy chair. It does that and almost everything else we want a home computer to do, exceeding my expectations. The Wi-Fi response time is very fast. My large classical music library on iTunes fits on the Acer and plays beautifully on our stereo - wirelessly with an Apple airport express. And the sound quality and volume via the earphone socket are totally satisfactory. The built-in speakers are plenty loud. When we connect it to a large monitor and keyboard, we're really not aware we're not using a full-fledged notebook costing several times as much.

Buying such things from Amazon is terrific. My reading of many highly informative reviews on Amazon played a major role in choosing the Acer and the Crucial 2GB memory board. A key factor was commentary about the sound quality, which several reviewers said is better than that of the competing Asus. The first Acer was dead on arrival. Amazon put a replacement in the mail before I got the dead one to UPS, all of which cost us $0.

My wife has to keep reminding me that I bought it for her.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Review

I bought this tiny netbook mainly to serve as the monitor for my vehicles' GPS. These little 4" or 5" or whatever GPS thingies are too small for me (even though I am only 5'6") so I opted for this handy laptop.

Performance: good for a midget computer
Keyboard: almost normal size, very good
Battery life: superb
Display: see below - unacceptable, and that is what it's all about, you gotta SEE what is going on, NOT GUESS folks!
Video watching: faultless; no frame jerking or such

In my cars that's where the troubles begin: Even on a cloudy day I can only hypothesize a picture on the screen! In my house it is acceptable; take the thing to a rather dark room - the extremely glossy picture is fine, but lift the window blinds and voilà, you can't see no nothing nix nada zilch zero. Thanks heaven the GPS program tells me loud and early enough where to turn into which street etc. Yo I feel like I'd fly on audio LIFR (Low/Limited Instrument Flight Rules). OK.

Now on to the aspect ratio: neither fish nor flesh, i.e. not 4:3 or 16:10 (16:9 is for TVs) but something in between.

Sob and sigh... But I am too lazy to send the unit back.

Conclusion: a fine little fast enough machine with superb battery life, recommendable for use at home, in the coal storehouse or at the bar, but definitely not for use outside or in a vehicle.

One more fact: the little Acer is well suited for CSI as the very best finger-print collector I have ever seen. Am I framed now?Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

For the price, the Acer Aspire One netbook is pretty sweet. Just 2 things I'd change: include a multi-type card slot instead of just a slot for an SD card, and use a pointer instead of a track pad. It's hard to type on the smaller keyboard anyway, and practically impossible to avoid touching the track pad. A pointer would be a better option.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Best Quality

After extensive research on many brands of netbooks, I chose this Acer for its 6-cell battery, size, weight, value for the $, and best of all the color! It is absolutely perfect for toting anywhere, especially to college classes which is my main reason for buying a netbook. I understand the negative reviews on the sizes of the keyboard and screen, but after all, it IS a netbook so what can one expect? The sensitive mousepad can be frustrating, but I am getting accustomed to it. For easier use for a long period of time, I just plug in a keyboard and mouse. Along with the Acer, I purchased an external disc drive which I would highly recommend. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Basically, I have tried:

1. The factory load
2. XP Pro
3. Windows 7 RC1

In all cases, the lid event error is there. It is not really an issue unless you try to run an external monitor. It manifests itself as 100% CPU utilization, when the lid is closed if you tell it to do nothing when the lid is closed. Apparently, it puts the ACPI into a continuous loop where he runs the event again and againGet more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

This Acer was recommended to me and I have no regrets in getting it. I love taking this machine wherever I go! It is certainly not a ruby red color, it's a burnt sienna color (hence the four stars, not five). That was the only disappointment. This machine works smoothly, it's easy to type on, the battery lasts a great amount of time. I went to Best Buy and got a little case for it and it fits snugly. I would highly recommend this Acer to anyone who needs a netbook. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Right now

After lots of research I decided on the Acer Aspire One netbook because of the multi-card reader, the 160 GB HD, the 1GB of Ram, the 6 cell battery and the 10.1 inch screen. I have had it now over a week and have since upgraded the memory to the 2 GB memory card. Like another reviewer I feel like I have gotten more for my money than expected. The screen is very clear, even outside in the sun. It streams video and music seamlessly. The webcam worksed very well while talking to a friend using Skype. The keyboard works well for me (with my small fingers) and my husband and other male friends (with much larger hands) had no problem typing on it as either. It was very easy to change the memory card. I have been able to get between 6 and 7 1/5 hours of battery life from my 6 cell battery. I am also able to have multiple applications open simultaneously with no noticeable lag.

I was prepared to hate the buttons on the touch pad due to the poor reviews that they received on almost all other reviews. Yes it is a stiff button but in the time that I have been using it I have gotten used to it. It is not annoying enough for me to get an external mouse just yet, and I have logged quite a few hours on this machine since I received it. One draw back is that this machine, unlike other models, does not come with a sleeve or case, but I have found one that works well for it from Amazon and am very happy with it.

Over all I am extremely pleased with this device and its functionality and have recommended it to all of my friends and co-workers. It is extremely portable and user friendly and I hope that this review helps others to make an informed decision.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Lowest Price Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

My wife (at age 59) showed an interest in having her "own" small computer to use at home, a first! As a birthday gift I ordered her this netbook - after checking reviews and pricing - Amazon offered the best "bang for the buck" with an upgraded 6 hour battery.

It works like a charm - phenomenal battery life - fast speed - all in all a wonderful lightweight alternative to full size laptops. Very easy to use - which was important. The only add ons needed were a wireless mouse, as she can not use a finger pad (had one at work - I finally changed that out for her also) and a great buy on a carry case.

Came immediately - and as always - Amazon pricing ran circles around the stores and ebay vendors! Next vacation - the netbook goes with us - my full size laptop stays home!!!!

5 stars for this netbook!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Low Price Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I took delivery of my Acer about a week ago. I am compelled to write this review because prior to buying this I had owned two other netbooks. The original ASUS 701, and then later the HP2133. Both of which were great for varying reasons. But I want to focus on this netbook.

There are several import features any netbook user will soon realize have great value. First, it needs to be reasonably powerful. It needs to have a reasonable keyboard layout. And it needs a good battery life. When you choose what is best for you, take my word for it. If any of those three items are not up to your expectations, you're not going to be happy with your choice.

Let's cover the powerful part first.

This particular ASUS has 1 GB of RAM, and it's a single SO-DIMM which you can replace very easily with nothing more than one screw and a Philip's screw driver. The cost of the DIMM at the time I purchased mine was $25 for a single 2 GB SO-DIMM. And just like that, I went from 1 GB to 2 Gbs for the Windows XP Service pack 3 install on this netbook. You'll want to do the same. Jumping from 1 GB to 2 Gbs changes the whole experience and it's not a lot of money. Just do it. You'll be glad you did. Or more to the point, you'll not be as happy as you could be if you don't.

Next is the processor. This one uses the Atom 1.6 GHz CPU from Intel. On battery it scales back to 1.0 GHz and extends the life of the battery. On AC it jumps up to 1.6 GHz. Even at 1.0 GHz, I didn't realize it reduced in speed at all. My use of Open Office on this felt as it always feels.

The battery

The battery life remaining time indicator ranged from 6.5 hours to a whopping 9.4 hours. I have yet to even see the battery die because I have not had the opportunity to use it on battery long enough to actually kill the battery. It just lasts and lasts. Virtually every single laptop or netbook I have owned doesn't come even remotely close to the battery life of this thing. And I have to tell I have been disappointed many times in the past over this single issue. I need a laptop that can last a while on battery, otherwise I am lugging something around for no real reason and I don't like that. You will get plenty of battery time on this.

The keyboard

I hate to say this, but the keyboards on the ASUS line are the worst. And this ACER and the HP netbooks out there are superior. Both the HP2133 and this ACER have 92% sized keyboards. But just as important as close to full size is, it's not the total. It's the keys themselves. You simply must have a right shift key under the enter key and it must be larger than the enter key. Why? Because that's the muscle memory you have when you type. All keyboards have always been this way until the dawn of the netbook when vendors such as ASUS changed that. And it makes the eeePC difficult to work with. Some keyboards put the UP key right under the Enter key. And you will intend to shift, but instead will cursor up and start inserting text into a previously finished sentence. This will drive you crazy. Always look at the images of the keyboard layout before you buy a mini. This Acer has the proper layout.

Some notes on other netbooks.

You should know that many netbooks have just 1 GB and are not expandable. Do not assume you can drop 2 Gbs into any netbook. You'd be wrong in that assumption. Do not assume that SSD is always better. I happen to own an SSD drive, and I paid a fair amount of money for it. It's not so much better than a hard drive at this point. Not until the lower cost ones dump the old JMICRON controller which causes stutters in loading is resolved. The more expensive ones use an Intel controller but cost more than this netbook does. And JMICRON only recently announced a new controller that resolves this issue. For now, a cheap 2.5" standard laptop hard drive is still a better bet for the money. Be sure your netbook can use a standard 2.5" laptop drive. They are so cheap these days. You should easily have 160 to 250 Gbs of storage. Many believe less is fine, but we all say things like that early on, and then demand more and more from our purchase as time goes forward. So just go for something spacious to begin with and you future-proof yourself. This particular ACER has a nice 160 GB hard drive.

The Mouse Pad and button

I read many reviews that talk about the mouse pad and button. They all scared me by being so very negative about it. Claiming it has a life of its own, etc. And how hard the button is to press. I am sorry to say I think those reviews are written by, shall we say people with no brains, or something. The single button is really two buttons. You press the left side of the single button to do a left mouse, and you press the right side to press a right mouse click. The center is the rocker bridge. If you press the center, nothing is going to happen. Like a teader todder, the center is what is holding the button in place. You are not meant to press there. You are meant to press the left side and the right side. Sorry but, dah. How dense are people not to realize this. And the mouse pad itself. I have nothing short of perfect results with it. I am happy to discover this after I bought it, but those who wrote such poor reviews of it need to stop drinking or smocking whatever they are abusing so early in the morning. These must be the same people who think that tray on a CD drive is a coffee cup holder.

Screen real estate. This Acer has 1024 x 600. A web page as wide as the Wall Street Journal will have no problem at all. From left to right, you see the width at 100% without problem. But the up and down resolution of just 600, a common size in most netbooks is really the minimum. Some newer gen netbooks are starting to offer higher resolution. My HP2133 does 1280 x 768 in an 8.9" screen. It's too tiny in my opinion, but you get used to it. Problem is, my HP2133 uses a VIA processor, not an Atom. The Atom is by far the better CPU for these minis. A 10.1" screen at 1024 x 600 is large. You will be able to read the screen easily. You just don't have a lot of top to bottom real estate. So limit things like tool bars so you leave enough room for the content itself.

I paid a total of $365 for mine with shipping and the cost of changing the memory to 2 Gbs. I feel like I got much more than I paid for. So much so I gave my HP2133 away to a friend in need of a netbook. This is my 3rd purchase of a netbook, and so far I finally feel like I got it right.

I studied all the reviews and did some online research before i made my purchase. I can honestly say that when I received it and first tried to use it I was going to return it to amazon.com the first day. The mouse froze in midscreen and would not move. I use a laptop connection device to connect to the internet and that does not work exactly great. I kept working with it, using a regular computer mouse, and eventually the laptop mouse started to work, no idea why or what I did. My internet connection device is slow and I had a terrible time trying to download anti virus, took almost two hours. I think if someone has wifi or ethernet this would be a good purchase, but if you have to use other connections you may want to think twice about this purchase.

The folks at amazon.com are amazing and will go out of their way to work with you. It's wonderful to be able to call a company and actually get a live person to speak with and help you. I would make another purchase from amazon.com without any qualms.

Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I bought this computer on Saturday, and by Friday the computer would not boot up - the OS had become completely corrupt. Of course, after reading every single booklet that came with the computer trying to find some sort of reference to customer service, I found a small paragraph that read "For customer support centers in your area, visit http://www....etc." I find it pretty difficult to go to a customer service website to find a number when my computer won't work! Luckily I still had my MAC on hand, I was anticipating its demise by purchasing this Acer computer. I visited the website and it referred me to the only customer support center in the US - in Texas, on the other side of the country. After waiting on hold for about 30 minutes, I got through to a representative who guided me through the system restore process - to restore the computer to factory settings (mind you I've only owned this computer for 5 days). So good luck with this computer. Maybe the same thing will not happen to you!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer has a winner here. I picked this up for my wife a Traveling nurse for her e-mail on the road. Well imagine my pleasent surpirse at how powerful this little thing is it runs World of Warcraft on line no problems. Why buy an Apple Air thats bigger has a smaller hard drive 120 gig compared to 150 gig on the Acer. The Mac needs special dvd drives and cables and has just one usb port. This Acer has 3 usb ports a digital card reader for your cameras card, external mike jack along with the built in mike, built in wi fi, built in webcam, printer jack, cable modem jack and uses all standard external accessories dvd's,hard drives, etc for a fraction of the Airs cost ...Mac $1799 Acer $329 and it weighs the same 3 lbs. Plus the Acer's battery lasts over 8 hours the Air only 4.5 hours barely 2 feature films worth. I've been on 6 hour flights and 8 hours sure beats having an hour and half of listening to the on board stuff after your Air runs out of juice. sure t5he apple is thiner big deal Our acer fits in a camera back pack apple for get it! Buying Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

This is a great little gadget for anyone who wants a convenient way to surf the web or manage e-mails. The keyboard is more compact than a typical notebook and takes some getting used to, but that is to be expected for a small netbook. It is worth the extra dollars to invest in the 6 cell battery; the charge lasts approximately 7 hours. Also, I think it is worth the extra few dollars to purchase this 10 inch screen model, rather than the less expensive nine-inch model; the extra inch makes a big difference, particularly for those of us who are entering our "bifocal years"! While the six cell battery and larger screen make this model a bit less compact than the smaller, three cell battery model, it is still a very portable unit, lightweight and about the size of a hardback book. Overall, a great value! Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

If so, would you please do me a favor and report the real-world average wattage a 10.1 inch Acer Aspire 0150 pulls during typical use?

I need to know because I live on solar power and my total daily watt hours are limited to 1,100.

My current little laptop, a 2005 Averatec 3700, pulls 28 to 32 watts most of the time. I want to find a zippy netbook with at least 1.5 ghz processor that uses between 12 and 20 watts. And it needs to have a comfortable keyboard. I'm a fast touch typist and need a logical, relatively normal keyboard.

The Dell Mini 10 inch seems to fit some of the bill. I plugged a display model at Best Buy into my Kill-a-Watt and booted the computer and used Windows Media Player and had a hard time getting the computer to draw more than 14 watts and often it was drawing only 12. However, the computer was terribly sluggish. I don't want a sluggish computer. And the touchpad pointer was not responsive, even after I went into Control Panel and tweaked its settings.

Surprisingly, I can't find a single Acer 10.1 inch model locally. Have called and walked around to all the likely stores. In fact, am having a hard time finding the 8-inch ones now. They were all over before Christmas.

Did find one 8-inch screen display model at a Wal-Mart and tested it. It seemed quick and responsive. But was shocked to see it pulling 24 to 28 watts -- and occasionally higher -- during simple, routine use. Not even more than one window open.

Can't imagine that this model with a larger screen would pull less -- unless Acer has made some efficiency improvements. But I sure like the Acers and after reading close to a hundred of these reviews, was pretty convinced I was going to order one. (Until I tested the wattage of the 8-inch model. Now I'm frustrated.)

Am hoping someone out there who owns one of these also owns a Kill-a-Watt meter and will take the couple minutes to plug the Acer into it and watch the readings as they surf the web and maybe play a video. And then report here? Please?

Also, if anyone knows the difference between the 0150 and 0250 (just out as I write this), could you detail it?

Thanks,
